Anthony Wright

Anthony Wright is an exoneree, who spent 25 years of his life incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. In August of 2016, he became the 344th DNA exoneree in the nation. With the support of the Innocence Project in New York, his case would set legal precedents that would lead to the release of countless wrongfully convicted people. Wright was just 20 when he was arrested, has always maintained his innocence and testified in both the original and the retrial that he only signed the alleged confession, which the police wrote out after the interrogating detectives threatened him with bodily harm.

Mr. Wright's story has gained national attention in numerous publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine, CBS Sports,  and The Marshall Project. After receiving one of the largest wrongful convictions settlements in Philadelphia history, Mr. Wright has dedicated himself to championing the cause of criminal justice reform efforts, particularly for the wrongfully convicted. As he has shared "Dealing with this court system, it’s horrible. You know, people have power with no accountability, even when they do something wrong. So part of my mission in that trial was for people to see where the system had gone wrong"

Today, as a husband, father, grandfather and advocate Mr. Wright speaks on numerous venues regarding his life, values, and lessons, "If you are angry, you're angry all the time,” he said. “It’ll ruin you.” “I always try to find the good out of every situation,” he continued. “For every person that points the finger at me, it's two persons that give me the thumbs up. That's what I focus on… They locked my body, but my mind was always free". Wright has committed himself to not only sharing his life's lesson with those he encounters but also utilizing his resources and experiences to initiate legislative change within the criminal justice system!
